Scottish Sports Aid Junior Sportsperson of the Year Award 2011
Scottish Sports Aid would like to congratulate Sean Redmond, a 16 year old sprint kayaker from Linlithgow, who was presented with the award of the Junior Sportsperson of the Year by Scottish Sports Aid's Chairman, Ronnie Sloan, at the Commonwealth Games Dinner held in Glasgow on Saturday 29 October 2011. Sean has had a great season, culminating with him winning five gold and one silver medals at the British Sprint Kayak Championships in Nottingham in September. Two of these gold medals were in individual events, the 500m and the 1000m, and Sean was the only Scot to win an individual gold medal at these championships.
Sean was selected from the following five sports stars who were each selected as the Scottish Sports Aid Merit Award Winners for 2011, due to their outstanding results during the year. The Merit Award Winners were:-
Craig Benson, swimmer
Sean Redmond, sprint kayaker
Kimberley Reed, athletics (hammer thrower)
Grant Sheldon, triathlete
Colette Will, weightlifter
These awards were kindly sponsored for the first time by our new sponsors, Sports Warehouse (Edinburgh) Limited, and we would like to thank them greatly for their financial assistance.
